             FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS..

Our readings this Sunday contain the message of the Lord’s desire that we be concerned about those in great need, as God is.  In the Gospel reading the rich man who saw someone in great need right outside his door and did nothing to help, received harsh judgment in the afterlife as a result.  There are many needs which we are not personally aware of in our world.  The church and charitable organizations do become aware of them and bring them to our attention out of obedience to the Lord and his call to assist the needy.  That is why special collections and other requests for our financial assistance for particular needs are often brought to our attention.  Although these appeals for our money can be annoying, especially when a number of them come rather close together, nevertheless, they are worthy of our attention.  We may not always be able to address each one financially, but we can always offer prayers for the people suffering in a situation that has been brought to our attention.  Doing so, can sometimes increase our desire to help out financially.  No one of us can fix all the problems of the needy in our world.  But if all of God’s children pray for situations that we become aware of, and strive to do what we can as our resources allow, the suffering of many people in tough situations can be greatly lessoned.

Thanks to all who attended the festival at Holy Cross last Sunday despite the chilly weather Saturday night and the competition from both a Vikings and Twin’s games on Sunday.  Thank you also to all who worked so hard to make the festival successful!  A great time was had by all.
