BULLETIN CONNECTION
One of the greatest passages in the Bible is in St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians. In chapter 2, Paul quotes an early Christian hymn. We don't know its exact origin, but it was clearly familiar enough among the early Christian community that Paul could freely quote it. We hear that hymn today. It is also used as the second reading every year on Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion.
The two parts reflect Christ's self-emptying (vs. 6-8) and Christ's exultation (vs. 9-11). These themes parallel another Gospel proverb that frequently appears: "The last will be first, and the first will be last." This line was the conclusion to last Sunday's Gospel about the workers in the vineyard.
Paul asks the Philippians to have the attitude of Christ as the hymn relates. We might ask ourselves if we are ready to empty ourselves, to give of ourselves completely. Can we be that much like Christ, trusting that God will raise us up?

PAINTING OF THE SANCTUARY
This past week scaffolding was put in place for the repainting/redecorating of
the sanctuary. Starting this next week, painting will begin. The painting will
take about eight weeks and the goal is to be finished by December 1st. During
the painting, in addition to the scaffolding, there will be coverings and other
painting materials in the sanctuary which we will have to work around.
Besides the painting of the sanctuary additional lighting of the sanctuary will
also be done and we hope to have some new sanctuary furniture. There will also
be some repairs on the organ if budget allows. These projects are possible
because of a generous gift a parishioner bequested in their will.
