FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS…..

The generosity of God is highlighted in our Gospel this Sunday in the parable of the landowner who paid all the workers he hired the same daily wage, even those who were hired at the end of the day.  Our Lord is speaking of course of eternal reward rather than earthly wages in this parable.  Regardless of when we come to saving faith in the Lord he will reward us with eternal life with him in heaven.

The confidence and peace that comes from strong faith in this life is an additional reward that those who have sound faith early on in life have but those who only come to faith late in life do not have.  Don’t wait until after retirement or the onset of serious illness to reach out to the Lord Jesus.  There are rewards that come from faith even in this life which are well worth the effort to make room for God in your life right now.  Pray for those who have not yet come to saving faith, and may Mary our Mother, pray for them with us.

The celebration of our 125th Anniversary Mass and reception last weekend was a great event in the life of our parish.  If you were able to attend the special mass at noon with the Archbishop you took part in a very wonderful expression of our parish’s vitality and diversity of culture.  The reception at St. Maron’s Cedars Hall was delightfully crafted to bring our celebration to a beautiful climax.

The Anniversary Committee that planned all the events for this year of our 125th anniversary has done amazing work and last Sunday’s events made that very clear.  I want to express my personal and very sincere thanks to them all for their willingness to give up so much time and energy to see to it that this special celebration of our parish’s long life and history would be something memorable and energizing for our parish.  May God bless them all for their willingness to give of their personal time to make time for their parish to have a truly appropriate celebration of its long life and service of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  You are special people indeed and on behalf of our parish I say to you, may God bless you richly for your generous service to our parish.

SPECIAL COLLECTION SEPT. 24-25 - Our beautiful Cathedral of Saint Paul requires everyone’s help!  Please consider a sacrificial gift for this collection to assist with the remaining $6 million for the emergency exterior restoration as well as the need for the $14 million to repair the interior damage.  Many thanks to all those who generously contributed to last year’s collection to care for our Mother Church.  All gifts received in this special collection will be designated and restricted to the restoration needs of the Cathedral.  Checks should be made out to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

OFFERTORY COLLECTION - Sept. 11, 2011

Sunday Collection - $8,483.00

Thank you!

THE FAMILY OF JIM GIBBS would like to express their extreme gratitude to Father Glen, Sister Benita, Sister Donna, the Parish Staff, Altar Servers, Funeral Luncheon Committee and other friends from Holy Cross for their prayers and acts of kindness.  It was appreciated.

WHY AM I BEING COUNTED?  Sunday Mass attendance numbers are required for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis’s quinquennial report, which is submitted in advance of the Archbishop’s ad limina visit to the Holy See in 2012.  Mass attendance counts are something our parish does from time to time of our own accord, in order to gather information that helps the parish better serve all the faithful.
