Welcome to Church of the Holy Cross

BULLETIN CONNECTIONS

As we celebrate Catechetical Sunday, we hear the famous parable of the workers in the vineyard. Those who worked long hours got paid the same as those who worked only a short time. It is easy to latch onto the simple moral: God blesses everyone, but some people have more gifts than others.

But maybe another way of looking at the story is to recognize that none of us really knows how much work we're called to do on behalf of the Gospel. The vineyard is extensive, and God may ask us to become part of the harvest even when we don't expect it.

We could stand around idly, but then we wouldn't get paid. Paul wrote in the first reading that living in Christ meant fruitful labor for him. So it looks as though each of us has to get out there and be a part of the harvest. Are you ready to work no matter what the pay may be?
