OUR GRATITUDE!

On Friday, August 29, 2003, Father David Ostrowski, Sister Benita Kordiak and Janice Frakie went to the funeral of Mr. Peter Pawluk at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Saint Paul, MN. Though very few knew, Peter Pawluk was a generous friend to our parish.

Peter and his wife Mary were blessed during their marriage. Though the Pawluk's attended Saint Olaf Church in downtown Minneapolis, they had at one time attended Holy Cross Church. Their affection for our beautiful church never left them. After Mary died several years ago, Peter began to organize his financial affairs before moving into the Little Sisters Home.

In his wife's memory, Peter wanted to do something special for Holy Cross and so he decided to give his house to Holy Cross Church. At the time he contacted our parish to make these arrangements we had just begun our capital campaign to raise the necessary money to renovate Kolbe Hall and install our new kitchen and elevator. After discussing the details with Father David and Janice Frakie, Peter was agreeable that our parish would sell the house and the proceeds would go to the "Continuing Our Tradition" campaign. Peter Pawluk became the first major donor to our Kolbe Hall Renovation fund with a gift of $100,000.

As a parish we owe Peter Pawluk a tremendous amount of gratitude for his generosity. He was humble, kind and thoughtful. Peter never asked anything in return except our prayers. May God grant Peter a place in His kingdom of Heaven and may we pray for Peter with grateful hearts.

            POPE JOHN PAUL II
        CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWS

We had a wonderful first day of school on September 2. It was great to see the returning students and welcome the new students. We always welcome visitors, so please stop in to meet the students, faculty and staff God has blessed us with for this year!

The response to the Catholic Aid request for school supplies for the students at Pope John Paul II Catholic School WAS OVERWHELMING. We certainly want to thank each of the parishes who supported this and all the people who generously gave supplies and money. We wish you could have seen the smiles on the student's faces, how excited they were to have the necessary school supplies. THANK YOU!
