FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS….. Our readings this Sunday speak of the virtue of humility. In our first reading from the Book of Sirach the inspired author says “Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.” In the Gospel Jesus teaches that “everyone who exults himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” The temptation to want attention and gratitude from others can be very great, especially for those who have wealth, influence or positions of power. Even for the average Joe the desire to be noticed or given special honor can come up. When we place ourselves before God each morning and humble ourselves before him, it is easier to be humble around our neighbor. May we always strive to place ourselves at the feet of God each day so that we can live a day of humble service to him. Over time, such people do attract the notice of those around them and receive attention that they have not sought after, which is much more rewarding to receive than attention and honors that we have actively tried to gain for ourselves. Humble people are much more attractive to be around, and much more pleasing to God. The new year begins for our school, Pope John Paul II, this Monday, August 30th. Please join me in praying for our students and staff that this will be a wonderful year for them all. Our school is such a joy for me to be a part of, and brings such beautiful fruits of faith and learning to the students and their families. Father Glen Jenson, Pastor Father Glen Jenson, Pastor |
