FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS…..

This Sunday the Lord corrects Peter for declaring that nothing terrible should ever happen to Jesus.  Jesus freely accepted the suffering that came to him for our sake.  Peter couldn’t know that when he said this to the Lord.  The Lord rebuked Peter for saying what he did because suffering will come when it will come.  Like the Lord Jesus we will have to meet it head on.  Many people react to suffering in their lives by rejecting God and falling away from their faith.  If our Lord Jesus suffered and died for us, we know that we too may encounter suffering of various kinds in this life too.  We must also know that Jesus will be with us in the midst of it as well, for he also promised the apostles that he would be with us until the end of the world, Mt 28: 20.

Our school Pope John Paul II will be opening on Monday with its highest enrolment since 2003 with 144 students currently enrolled.  At this time we are closing some of our rooms to further registration and establishing waiting lists.  Blessed John Paul II is clearly a powerful intercessor.  The teachers, staff, and I are looking forward to introducing them to the world of learning and of encountering their faith in ever deeper ways.  This year we have a Marian focus and the staff and I are studying Pope John Paul II’s encyclical on the rosary as part of our own growth in faith and understanding in order to better pass on to our students the desire to pray, as well as the knowledge of how to pray.

The Northeast Eucharistic Adoration Chapel located in the convent chapel at Holy Cross is in real need of more people who can respond to the Lord’s words to the apostles during his agony in the garden, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour.”  If you have time during the day between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM to come adore the Lord and intercede for so many who are in need of the Lord’s help, please contact the office at Holy Cross at 612-789-7238 or myself.

NEW ROMAN MISSAL - The Roman Missal, Third Edition, affords the opportunity to once again focus on the source and summit of the Christian life, that is, the Liturgy of the Church, and particularly on the Holy Mass.   While the knowledge of new words is important, what is of much greater importance is the meaning of the words and the essence of the liturgical act as a whole.  First use of the new text of the new Roman Missal will be on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011.
