FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS…..

In our Gospel this Sunday the Lord gives the keys to the kingdom of heaven to St. Peter.  This echoes the first reading from the prophet Isaiah through whom the Lord gave the key to the house of David to the new master of the palace, Eliakim.  The keys were a symbol of holding the office to determine who could gain entry to see the king.  Forgiveness of sins gives us access to the kingdom of heaven.  In giving the keys of the kingdom to Peter, Jesus was entrusting the forgiveness of sins to his church which he was founding on Peter and the apostles.  Just as the key to the house of David, the royal family of Israel, gave one access to the king who had absolute power to grant your requests, so too the keys of the kingdom of heaven given through Peter to the church enable the church to bring us God’s forgiveness.  God’s forgiveness of our sins gives us the ability to enter heaven in the presence of our true king, God almighty.

In the Sacrament of Confession we experience the power of the keys of heaven to have our sins be loosed and stand ready to enter the heavenly palace with all the saints and angels.  This sacrament is a great gift from God which gives us assurance of the forgiveness of our sins.  Make regular use of the sacrament and know that you stand ready to meet the king and be blessed by him in this life and in the next.

We have continuing good news about our Northeast Catholic School, Pope John Paul II.  As you know, Pope John Paul II was beatified last spring.  He seems to be hard at work to prosper our school which is named in his honor.  Our enrollment had been below one hundred students since 2004.  By working hard to reshape the school for academic and spiritual excellence during those years, we seem to have reached a point where even heaven thinks that we have really got something now.  Enrollment increased last year by twelve students to 105.  This year, enrollment is up 30% to 140!  That’s amazing growth and surely heaven is behind such a huge jump.  Blessed John Paul II is looking out for us from above.  Blessed be God for answering his prayers for us, and the many prayers offered up for our school these last seven years.  We are on the way to bigger and better things for our kids.

celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary!

May they be blessed with many more years

of love, health and happiness.

THANK YOU - THANK YOU!

Thank you to Stanley & Darin Wolyniec and helpers for redoing the gym floor in preparation for the start of the school year.  It took many hours to strip the floor and apply multiple new coats of sealer.  All of your work is greatly appreciated!

Thank you also to the Tuesday Toilers who continuously work for the benefit of our parish.  They work inside and outside and are terrific at spotting things that need to be fixed.  Over the years this group of men has saved Holy Cross thousands and thousands of dollars.  God bless you!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION - Let us visit JESUS in the Adoration Chapel with loving trust in HIS goodness.  We should have confidence and believe that GOD will grant our prayer if it is for our good.  God loves to see our faith, confidence and trust in our hearts, but we should be resigned to GOD’S will.
