An introduction from Fr. Waldemar Matusiak:

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

I come here from Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Sterling Heights, Michigan where I spent 10 months and it was my first parish in the United States.

I was ordained a priest on May 23, 1995 by Bishop Zdzislaw Fortuniak, Auxiliary Bishop of Poznan.  Following my ordination, I served as an associate pastor in two parishes in Poland in the northwestern region of my country.  Then I studied at the Catholic University in Lublin.  In 2001 I was awarded a Doctorate in Fundamental Theology.  I worked for two years in our seminary in Poznan.

I have a small but wonderful family.  They live in Poland.  I have one brother who is married and he has 4 children.  In one week his daughter Inez will get married.  My father died 23 years ago.  He was a miner of copper.  My mom passed away last July.

Standing before so many needs of the Polish migrants, the Society of Christ decided to direct me to the United States.  I hope I can fulfill this special mission with God’s blessing and your prayers.

                          Sincerely in Christ,

                          Fr. Waldemar Matusiak, S.Ch.

BULLETIN CONNECTION

The reading of the sixth chapter of John’s Gospel that we began last Sunday is interrupted today for the celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lord.  The feast takes precedence over a Sunday in Ordinary Time.  It was added to the calendar by Pope Callistus II in 1457 to commemorate the victory over the Turks in a battle near Belgrade.  August 6 is also the day that the electric chair was first used for capital punishment, and the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

The readings of today’s celebration remind us who has ultimate dominion over the earth: “All peoples, nations, and languages serve (the Son of man).”  Greater than any human power or sovereignty is the kingdom of Christ.  It is a reminder to us of who is ultimately in charge of our lives.
