WE NEED YOUR HELP TO “SAVE OUR SALE” - The Holy Cross “Rummage Sale” will be August 4, 5 & 6 - Wednesday through Friday.  We are seriously short of items for the sale that is less than three weeks away.  Please take time to dig through your basement, cupboards, garage, etc.  Donations can be brought to the garages behind the rectory weekdays 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or call 612-789-7238 weekdays to arrange a drop off time.  Please, no clothing, TV’s or furniture.

Here are things that can be done now:

Think of where you would like to work.  We need and would like lots of volunteers.  The “Kiddie Games” area needs new chair couples.  It’s a great spot for families with children.  The Flea Market also needs a chair person.
Design a theme basket for the Arts and Crafts Booth. - Pick a theme - Spa, Picnic, Bread Baking, etc. and fill a basket with items relating to your theme.
Make items for the Fancy Booth - crochet, knit, carve, paint, holiday items, etc.

MYSTERY GIFTS - The Polish Rosary Society has started collecting items for the Mystery Gift Booth at our Fall Festival.  They are looking for good useable items for all ages.  Do you have good items around your house that you can donate.  Bring these items to the Parish Office weekdays during office hours 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or leave them in the sacristy marked “Mystery Booth.”

FESTIVAL SILENT AUCTION ITEMS - We need your help!!  If you think of or come across an item that would be good for the Silent Auction at our Fall Festival, please remember your church.  Start collecting items now.  If you have questions, please call the Parish Office weekdays at 612-789-7238.

OLAN MILLS - SMILE!!  Mark you calendars now so you don’t miss the Holy Cross Parish Pictorial Directory.  Holy Cross Parish will work with Olan Mills Studios on the directory.  Put names with faces - connect with people - be part of history as we celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Holy Cross next year.  Photo dates at Holy Cross will be October 4 thru 9 and October 11 & 12, 2010.

POLKA DAZE - St. Anthony of Padua Annual Polka Daze Festival, Sunday, August 1st on the Parish Grounds, 813 Second St. N.E.  It will begin with a Polka Mass at 11:30 AM and continue on the grounds until 5:00 PM.  The event includes Cash Drawings, Food, Door Prizes and Live Polka Music with the Dick Macko Orchestra as well as games for children and adults.  For more information call 612-379-2324.

POPE JOHN PAUL II SCHOOL NEWS: Would you like your child to experience education where faith and knowledge co-exist?  Register to attend Pope John Paul II Catholic School where academics, values, and faith development exist at the heart of each child’s education.  For information, contact the school at 612-789-8851.  We would love to talk to you about education in your Northeast Minneapolis Catholic School.

THE ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL 2010 at Holy Cross will take place the weekend of August 7 & 8.  Fr. Matthew Bulala, MA will talk about the Diocese of Geita, Tanzania and the financial strains which create a negative impact on the implementation and fulfillment of the mission work which is integral to the development of the people.  Proceeds from the second collection will be used for faith formation, education, healthcare programs and construction of the Cathedral and Orphanage Center.  Your prayers and financial support for the mission work will be appreciated.

TWIN CITIES POLISH FESTIVAL will be August 14 & 15, 2010 along the Mississippi River on Old Main Street across from Riverplace & St. Anthony Main.  Sat. 10 AM to 10 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM.  Experience “All Things Polish” and celebrate and explore the Polish heritage and culture that is a vibrant part of Minnesota.  Festival includes traditional Folk Dance & Music, Folk Art Demonstrations, Food Market & Beer Garden, Na Zdrowie! 5K Run, Chopin Celebration, Polish Sheepdog Exhibits, Art Exhibit, Children’s Activity Area, Polka Bands, etc.  More information available at www.tcpolishfestival.org

CENTER FOR MISSION - The Archdiocesan Center for Mission thanks the parishioners of Holy Cross Parish for participating in the Global Solidarity Sunday Collection taken up in June, on the Feast of Corpus Christi.  The $1,152.00 gift will go toward supporting the major global priorities of the US Catholic Church including: Catholic Relief Services, Solidarity with African, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe.
