Text Box: MESSAGE FROM
FATHER JENSON

This Sunday we read of the Lord sending the disciples out two by two to spread the good news about him to the people. The mass itself picks up on this at its conclusion. In Latin, the ending is “Ite, missa est” which means go, the mass is ended. The various optional endings in English all include the instruction to go. We are not thanked for coming, but are sent forth with a direct instruction to leave the safety of the Church and do what the disciples did. The Church is not to be static and unmoving but alive and active. In the mass we are instructed through God’s word to enter into the atoning sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary now perpetually offered in heaven by him to his father, and then nourished through his body and blood in the Eucharist. Thus empowered, we are to go forth and fulfill our commission to be true disciples of Jesus like the seventy-two in this Sunday’s Gospel, spreading the good news of our faith to all those around us. May our Lady assist us in coming to mass and seeking to be energized to serve Jesus as the disciples did.

As you read this I will have just returned from vacation but had to write this article before I left due to bulletin publishing deadlines. I will say a bit about my journeying in next week’s bulletin.

Vacation Bible School: For those interested in a fun filled faith experience for their kids this summer, don’t forget to sign up for our first ever Vacation Bible School, the last week of this month. Helping out at it would also be an excellent way to recharge the spiritual battery. Please contact the church office if interested. You’ll be glad you did.
