Text Box: OUR FALL FESTIVAL
WILL BE HERE BEFORE
WE KNOW IT!
September 15 & 16

Here are some ideas of what can be done now:

Make items for the Fancy Booth - crochet, knit, carve, paint, holiday ornaments, etc.
Design a theme basket for the Arts and Crafts Booth. Pick a theme - Angels, Antiques, Apples, etc. - and fill the basket with items relating to your theme.
Start collecting (searching) for donations of “mystery gifts” for people of all ages for the Parcel Post Booth. Useable items for the booth are needed.
Think of where you would like to volunteer your time to work. Volunteer to be the chairman or chair couple!

Questions? Call the Rectory weekdays at 612-789-7238.

Dear Parishioners,

Occasionally Holy Cross is visited by people asking for money for various reasons.  This kind of personal solicitation is called panhandling and is illegal.  While some requests may be genuine, most are dishonest.  Compassionate Catholics with big hearts become an easy target as they enter or leave a church.  While the parish office will help out occasionally, it is our policy to not give money to panhandlers.  We encourage you to do the same.

Recently the news reported these solicitations are becoming aggressive and at times threatening.  In fact, some members of the parish staff have become victims of verbal abuse when refusing to give money.  Leaders in the community urge us not to give money to panhandlers, not just because it is illegal, but it also encourages further solicitation.  Sometimes generous givers become victims of crime themselves as their wallets or purses are stolen.

If you are approached, simply decline by saying we do not give out money.  Please do not tell panhandlers to go see the Pastor (or “Fr. David”) or some other staff person.  This only gives the panhandler hope they will have a chance to get some money, especially if they can use our personal names.  It is dangerous to send them to the sacristy as they may see things in the sacristy to  quickly steal.  Though it is difficult to decline people who express need, we must have boundaries for the common good.

Father David
