FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

This weekend in our Gospel we have the story of the Lord Jesus meeting the disciples on the road to Emmaus.  He enabled them to recognize him when he shared a meal with them and they saw in his blessing over the bread the familiar pattern of divine blessing that he used.  The Eucharist is our way even today to recognize Jesus in our midst just as they did then. Jesus is as present to us today as he was to those disciples two thousand years ago each time we come to mass.  May the season of Easter be a time of rich encounter with our risen Lord Jesus for us all.

This weekend is also Mother’s Day.  Moms are one of the most important ways that we can see a love that is unfailing in our own lives that can give us an idea of what God’s love is like.  I want to wish to all of the moms of our parishes that God will bless you richly for the wonderful ways in which you provide love to your families!  God gave the world stars and there was beauty. God gave the world sun and there was warmth. God gave the world rain and there was life. God gave the world MOTHERS and there was LOVE. Happy Mother’s Day!

Last weekend we had a wonderful multi-ethnic celebration of the Beatification of Pope John Paul II, now Blessed John Paul II.  He was a wonderful pope for the universal church during his pontificate and I pray that he will be a special patron for the local church in Northeast now and in the future.

This weekend our seminary intern Ben Little is being ordained to the transitional Deaconate at the Basilica.  When next you meet him at a weekend mass, he will likely be preaching for the first time.  God bless you Deacon Ben as you move forward toward your ordination to the priesthood next Spring.
