PLANTING OF THE KATYN OAK TREE - Several years ago an initiative originated in Poland to honor each of the 22 thousand victims of the Katyn Massacre by planting “Katyn Oak Trees.”  One tree is to be planted in honor of each Katyn victim.  Our celebration, the first Katyn Oak Tree planted on the American continent, will be held on May 9, after the 11:30 AM Mass honoring the victims of Katyn.  We chose to commemorate a policeman from Tarnopol – Wladyslaw Rybak, the son of Ludwik, born January 14, 1899 and murdered with a shot in the back of the head in Tver, in 1940. His body was buried in a mass grave in Mednoye.  The Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago, Mr. Zygmunt Matynia and his wife will be present on this day and will also attend a formal dinner. Tickets for the dinner to be held in Kolbe Hall after the commemoration can be purchased at the parish office: $20 for adults, $10 for children (up to 12 years old).
