Text Box: BULLETIN CONNECTION

If the risen Christ appeared in our midst, I suspect that the last thing we would expect him to ask us is, “Do you have anything to eat?”

If he were here in our midst, we would probably expect him to tell us what to do, or encourage us to preach, or maybe even invite us to repent. But we probably wouldn’t expect him to ask for a hand-out. After all, he is risen from the dead; what does he need food for?

But maybe that’s the point of today’s Gospel. Christ is risen! But there are still needs in this world. Our belief in the resurrection does not absolve us from our concern for our brothers and sisters. Rather, it intensifies it. Because now, the hungry one that stands before us is Christ, who asks us, “Do you have anything to eat?” We dare not turn him away!
