FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

This Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.  As we begin this solemn week of remembrance of the Lord’s death and resurrection, please plan to attend as many of the special Holy Week services as you can to better take in the sacred mysteries of the Lord Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection.  The only masses that can be held during the Holy Triduum which begins on Holy Thursday are the evening services of the Lord’s Supper, Veneration of the Cross, and the Easter Vigil.  There will be Morning Prayer services at Holy Cross from the Church’s Liturgy of the Hours each morning instead of daily mass.  If you have been to the Northeast Advent Vesper Services then you will be familiar with what they will be like.

Please note the bulletin for service times for Holy Week as the schedule is different, especially on Holy Saturday compared to a regular weekend.  May we all have a spiritually renewing experience of Holy Week and Easter.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT GOOD FRIDAY

IS BOTH A FAST DAY AND A DAY OF ABSTINENCE.

Father Glen Jenson, Pastor

HOLY LAND COLLECTION - On Good Friday our parish will take up the annual collection for the Holy Land.  Your contribution will support the works of the Catholic Community in the Middle East and help protect the holy places and Christian Shrines.  Please be generous.

ENGLISH ALTAR AND ROSARY GUILD - A huge thank you to everyone who participated in making the Ham and Cash Bingo last weekend a success.  A special thank you to Roses 102 and 103 for hosting the event.

FISH FRY THANK YOU - Thank you to everyone who attended and/or worked at the Holy Cross Fish Fry’s.  We couldn’t do it without guests!  Plus, the help of so many people - shoppers, table setters, food preparers, servers, ticket seller, clean up crews, etc. - combined to present successful fish dinners.  Bless you all for your kindness!

“THANKS MOM FOR LIFE” MOTHER’S DAY CORSAGES - The English Altar and Rosary Guild is sponsoring “Thanks Mom for Life” corsages for Mother’s Day.  Advance sales will be on one weekend only - April 30 and May 1.  Buy a ticket that you exchange on Mother’s Day (May 7 & 8) for a lovely orchid corsage with attached pro-life message.  Donation is $5.00.  Tickets available at church entrances.  Limited corsages available - your advance ticket guarantees a lovely corsage.  Proceeds to pro-life activities.

SPRING CRAFT AND BAKE SALE - The St. Anthony of Padua Women’s Guild is having their Spring Craft and Bake Sale in the Atrium of Catholic Eldercare (817 Main St. N.E.) April 16 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM (Sloppy Joe Dinner for Sale) and April 17 from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

LENTEN ALMSGIVING - Thank you to all who participated in the Holy Cross Lenten Almsgiving project.  Each week you reached out to those in need and throughout Lent extra Corporal Works of Mercy were performed.  Last weekend a van full of food was taken to Mary’s Place.  Thank you and God Bless You!

THE “LIGHT WEIGH” - N.E. Catholic Community Light Weigh will be hosting an orientation meeting at Holy Cross.  Would you like to learn how to overcome temptation and eat the foods you enjoy, while you grow closer to God and lose weight?  There are no weigh-ins.  The Light Weigh Bible Study/DVD series will have an Orientation on Monday, April 25th at 7:00 PM in the Church Library (enter blue doors on 4th St. side and go downstairs).
