FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

The raising of Lazarus from the dead in our Gospel this Sunday is the clear fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament such as we heard in our first reading from the Prophet Ezekiel.  Almost all of the prefaces of the mass that begin the Eucharistic Prayers start with the phrase, “Father all powerful and ever living God.”  God is ever living because he is the source of all life.  As the source of life, being life itself, he can restore life, heal life, and bring us to the fullness of life in eternity.  Life is of God, only in him can we learn what life is truly about, how to live if most fully, and find hope that life does not cease when the body dies, but that the ever living God will bring us to life everlasting with him through our faith.  Praised be Jesus Christ, the Lord of all life in whom we find our fullest hope!

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.  Note confessions schedules in the bulletin and plan ahead to be able to be prepared to celebrate Easter.

I noted in the bulletin from St. Agnes Parish in St. Paul that their pastor, Fr. John Ubel, who was at our Closing Ceremony for 40 Hours Devotion two weeks ago, was worried about the degree of splendor at Holy Cross and the vast numbers in attendance there, both of clergy and laity.  He opined that he was worried they might have to cede the crown for the best Closing Ceremony for 40 Hours Devotion in the Archdiocese to Holy Cross.  I attended the ceremony at St Agnes last Sunday.  Their church is beautiful, the ceremony ably performed, a worthy effort on every level.  It was not, however, equal to ours here in Northeast at Holy Cross. The crowds of clergy, laity, the vast and powerful festival choir, the billowing clouds of sweet smelling incense, were clearly beyond being equaled by our dear neighbor to the east.  The crown for the best Closing Ceremony for 40 Hours Devotion resides unquestionably in Northeast at Holy Cross.  I do readily concede that the second best ceremony for closing 40 Hours is to be found across the river and to our east at the lovely Austrian parish in Frogtown.
