Text Box: BULLETIN CONNECTION

There is so much joy in the statement, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.” We have sung and prayed these words since the beginning of Advent, so many weeks ago. Christ has come; he is our light. Ironically, sometimes it isn’t darkness that needs to be overcome; sometimes competing lights render a light source invisible. Just try to see stars in the night sky if you live in a well-lit city! Just try to see the light of Christ when there are such strong spotlights cast on some preachers and teachers. Paul writes about this problem in today’s second reading, and he is describing the factions formed in the church of the first century! We still very much need his warning today. It is Jesus Christ we are to follow, not some media star or innovation or manipulation of the message. But perhaps we find his pure, simple message difficult. It illuminates his Cross.

CHILLY HOLY CROSS CHURCH!  We apologize to all who worshipped in our chilly church last Sunday, January 20.  Sister Benita discovered the problem when she went into church to prepare for 6:30 PM Mass.  Turns out that the boiler for the church and school went out sometimes during the late morning.  Our plan was to conserve energy by closing the inside doors, not by turning off the heat!  We apologize for any discomfort.
