FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

In our readings this Sunday we have an account of the Lord’s call to Peter, his brother Andrew and the sons of Zebedee, James and John, to come and follow him.  They all dropped what they were doing to go and follow the Lord in his mission to bring the good news to the world.  Having celebrated with joy the season of Christmas honoring the birth of Jesus, we are called to follow Jesus our king and bring his light into the world.

One way that we bring people to the light of Christ is through Catholic Education.  As you know our school was one of ten schools reviewed by the Archdiocese last fall.  The financial issues that face the Archdiocese have required it to assess the level of financial aid that many schools receive to see if the Archdiocese can continue to provide all the needed support they require to remain in operation.

After a two month process of putting together all the information that the Archdiocese asked us to provide in order to assess each school, our school’s leadership presented our report to the Board of Schools Review on December 17th.  Our school, Pope John Paul II, was determined to be a very innovative school with excellent academic performance, growing enrollment, and evangelical effectiveness in bringing students and their families to deeper faith.  We have also made progress in establishing partnerships with supportive members of the business community.  As a result we have been determined to be worthy of remaining open to pursue our mission of bringing the Light of Christ to the young in our community for the future!  This is great news for our faith community.

At almost the same time as we learned this from the Archdiocese, Rome has announced that our school’s patron Pope John Paul II is going to be beatified on May 1st.  I wonder just how much his prayers helped to ensure the ongoing life and health of our school which is named for him.  I suspect quite a lot!

I will be on my annual retreat this week from Sunday evening until Friday evening.  Once I am back I will be around and ready to hit the ground running.

Dear Holy Cross Parishioners

Thank you for your ongoing support through Coins for Cribs!  The $386.00 donation to our Safe Slumber program will provide six cribs to mothers and babies in need!  The letters we receive from those we helped indicate appreciation, love for their children and an alternative to abortion.  We cannot make this happen without generous support like yours.  Thank and God bless!    Dan Rueb, Secretary of Cribs for Hope.

2010 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS - The 2010 Financial Statements will be mailed to all parishioners this week.

SHARING THE GOSPEL - Talk to God in prayer every day.  Tell him when you are afraid.  Tell him when you are happy.  Tell him that you love him.  Obey his commandments.  Be a light to others.  Show them by your shining example how to be a Christian.  Feed the hungry.  Give drink to the thirsty.  Give clothes to the needy.  Forgive yourself and others.  When Jesus, the Son of Man comes to get you, you will be ready.
