                  BAPTISM CLASS

Beginning in January 2003 parents who wish to have their children baptized will be required to attend an information meeting before baptism can occur. The Church asks that instruction be given before sacraments are administered so that all participants may better understand what they are doing.

Sister Benita and Sister Donna will conduct the class every second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. At this meeting the parents (and godparents) will come to know the meaning of baptism and their obligations. There will also be a "walk-through" of the baptism ceremony with an explanation of the various symbols used. In addition to the class, the following is also required:

That parents be registered members of Holy Cross parish. Should parents belong to another parish, a letter from their pastor will be required for baptism as well as proof of instruction.
One godparent is necessary for Baptism. There may be one godfather, one godmother or one of each.
(Two of the same gender is not allowed).
In order to be a godparent, it is necessary:
         a) That one be at least 16 years of age.
         b) That one is Catholic and has received
             First Communion and Confirmation.
         c) That one is an active Catholic and leads a
life of faith in harmony in the Church.
A non-Catholic person may be a witness to the baptism but not be an official godparent.

Arrangements for baptism and registration for the class will be made through the parish secretary, Janice Godlewski, at 612-789-7238.

It is encouraging that at least 20 young people replied that they would be interested in joining this group. In January there will be a first meeting. Emphasis on this group will be for youth to learn more about their Catholic faith and put that faith into action through ministry and social service. Please watch the bulletin for more details. If interested in joining this group or helping out, please call the parish office at 612- 789-7238 and leave your name and number.
