RELIGIOUS RETIREMENT - Religious face rising costs. Data submitted to the National Religious Retirement Fund Office reveals that the average annual cost of care for women and men religious age 70 and over has more than doubled since 1989.  Current statistics put this figure at $35,077 per person annually, with skilled care reaching nearly $55,000.  Your donation to the Retirement Fund for Religious provides critical support in meeting the escalating costs of elder care.  Please pray for all religious and give generously to today’s collections.

“COINS FOR CRIBS” is an Advent outreach project at Holy Cross.  All coins received in the weekly offertory collection will be given to “Cradle of Hope,” a non-profit organization that works with mothers and infants in crisis.  If you prefer to give dollars or a check, put your gift in an envelope marked “Cradle of Hope.”  The second week of Advent we collected $133.00   Thank you!

Text Box: MESSAGE FROM
FATHER JENSON

In our Gospel John the Baptist urges the people to be generous, honest, and to prepare for the Lord. This is the Third Sunday of Advent. Christmas is almost here. In the midst of our bustling around we can become stressed and self-focused. Take time for meaningful prayer and quiet. Early morning or later evening may be the only times available for that, but taking special time to be with the Lord will bear rich fruit in the heart during these graced days of preparation to celebrate our Lord’s birth.

Advent Vespers on Sunday afternoon are one special way to prepare in spirit. The Mother of Perpetual Help Novena service with Benediction at St. Anthony’s this Tuesday at 5:30 PM is another way to have special prayer time with the Lord and his Blessed Mother. Give yourself the gift of special prayer times during these remaining days of Advent. They will bring blessings to you for Christmas.

The Advent Vespers Services that are offered in four different churches in Northeast each Advent are wonderful opportunities to experience the spiritual reality of this season of preparation of the soul to meet its Lord in love. The Third Vesper Service will be this Sunday at Mount Carmel Church at 3:00 PM. Come and worship and prepare for the coming of the king!

Father Glen Jenson, Pastor
