FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

This Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent, referred to as Rejoice, or Gaudete Sunday. In keeping with this theme, the liturgical color for this Sunday is Rose, sometimes mistaken for pink, a lighter and brighter color than the general color for Advent which is purple.  The theme of rejoicing comes into the readings with the references in the first reading to the desert blooming, weak hands and knees being strengthened, and the rejoicing of the people whom the Lord has ransomed.  In Jesus Christ God has given us the clearest assurance possible that he will assist us in our trials.  Not every situation is within our power to change or fix, but with God’s help through his son Jesus, every situation can be ransomed and made to bring forth good.  As we prepare to celebrate our savior’s birth, let us kneel before him in humble trust and place our trials and anxieties before him in prayer.  His light can shine through any darkness.  Trust in him and rejoice!

After the holidays are over and life returns to normal, there are some new ministries presently beginning quietly at Holy Cross that show great promise for the spiritual life of our three parishes.  More ministries are needed for our youth, young couples, general adult education and outreach.  I would like to gather ideas from interested members of our three parishes about what needs you feel have yet to be addressed by our parishes.  You will see notices in the bulletin in January for opportunities to sit down and consider ideas for what ministries should be added and how we can raise volunteers to help make these things come into being.  This is not something related to the restructuring by the Archdiocese but arising from seeing what has started already and needs to be enlarged to serve all three parishes, and what more might be needed locally for our own needs as a people of faith, at the parish level.  I look forward to seeing what new ideas can blossom forth in the midst of winter’s deep cold.  Come Lord Jesus!
