Text Box: BULLETIN CONNECTION

If you were going to write a Gospel what would you say? How would you begin? As we hear in today’s selection, the author of Luke’s Gospel wants to communicate the events in an orderly fashion so that his patron, Theophilus, can “realize the certainty of the teachings” he has received.

As we move through Luke this year, we should recognize that he portrays Jesus as being on a journey to Jerusalem. It is there, in the holy city, where his mission will be accomplished through his death and resurrection. It is also from there that the disciples will be sent out after they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in the second part of the story, the Acts of the Apostles.

Today, as the story begins, the Spirit is upon Jesus, who brings glad tidings to the poor.
