CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT - Thank you for your support of last week’s Collection for the Campaign for Human Development!  Because of your generosity, more low-income people in the United States will be able to break the cycle of poverty and improve their communities.  In these times when everyone’s budget is stretched, we are especially grateful for your support.

Text Box: MESSAGE FROM
FATHER JENSON

This Sunday, the First Sunday of Advent, begins the Church’s new liturgical year. Our Gospel is one that speaks of the end of times rather than of the coming birth of the Son of God. However, having just celebrated Christ the King last Sunday to end the old liturgical year, we are familiar that Jesus is the Lord of creation and of all life. His first coming at Bethlehem two thousand years ago was to prepare us for his final coming in glory at the end of times. The season of Advent is therefore a time of quiet preparation to welcome the birth of the humble Jesus, so that we will be ready to meet our Lord the Christ when he comes to judge the world. Advent has great spiritual significance for a Christian as a result. As we light the first candle on the Advent wreath this Sunday, let it be a symbol of our desire to follow Christ the true light of the world whole heatedly.

The Advent Vespers Services that are offered in four different churches in Northeast each Advent are wonderful opportunities to experience the spiritual reality of this season of preparation of the soul to meet its Lord in love. The first Vesper Service will be this Sunday at St. Anthony at 3:00 PM. Come and worship and prepare for the coming of the king!

Father Glen Jenson, Pastor

“COINS FOR CRIBS” is an Advent outreach project here at Holy Cross.  As we prepare to celebrate the Birth of the Baby Jesus at Christmas, our parish will again collect coins during Advent that will be used to buy baby cribs.  The money collected will be given to “Cradle of Hope” - a non profit organization that works with mothers and infants in crisis.  All coins received in the weekly collection plate will be given to this project.  Bring extra coins to Church.  If you prefer to give dollars or a check, put your gift in an envelope marked “Cradle of Hope.”  Thank you!

ADVENT VESPERS

Please join the Northeast community to pray Vespers (Evening Prayer) on each of the four Sundays of Advent. Prayer begins at 3:00 PM.

November 29 at St. Anthony of Padua

              December 6 at All Saints

December 13 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

             December 20 at Holy Cross

Help prepare yourself to welcome Christ into your heart more deeply by participating in this prayer of the Church.

THANK YOU - On behalf of the Church’s missionary efforts we the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis want to thank the parishioners of Holy Cross for your generous World Mission Sunday gift of $1,120.00 to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
