RETIREMENT FUND FOR THE

RELIGIOUS

The appeal for the Retirement Fund for the Religious asks us to recall those men and women religious whose ministry has nourished our own faith, served our church, and strengthened our nation.  Today, more than 37,000 women and men religious are past age 70.  Their communities face critical economic challenges as the costs of health care escalate and as the need for handicapped-accessible housing increases.  Some still struggle to overcome the losses suffered in hurricanes along the Gulf Coast.

Now in its 19th year, the Retirement Fund for the Religious once again asks for your help which you have given so generously in the past; last year’s collection in our Archdiocese was over $500,000; and our total gifts for the 18 years of the appeal are in excess of $9 million!  The weekend of December 9-10 a special collection will be taken up at all Masses to respond to this need.  As in the past, almost 95% of your gifts will be distributed directly to those groups most in need at this time.  They count on your generosity and thank you.

THE POLANIE CLUB of Minneapolis and St. Paul wishes to share its most beloved celebration by hosting a traditional Christmas eve dinner, Polish Wigilia, on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Jax Café, 1928 University Avenue N.E.  The cost for this non-profit event is $35.00 per person and includes tax and gratuity.  For more information or reservations call Fran 651-639-1464, Marie 763-566-2132 or Roma 651-698-8733.

PEACE MASS - St. Maron Catholic Church, 602 University Avenue N.E., Minneapolis, will be the host of our next Peace Mass held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006.  Rosary begins at 6:30 PM, Peace Mass begins at 7:00 PM.  Receive a copy of the message given by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Medjugorje on the 25th of each month.  A collection will be taken up at that time to be sent to the only Catholic radio station in the Middle East.  Refreshments follow.
