Text Box: MESSAGE FROM
FATHER JENSON

This weekend we honor the souls of the faithful departed. Some die ready for heaven after a life in which clear commitment to loving God first in their lives was evident. Some die lost in hate, bitterness and evil. The fates of these two groups are clear, heaven and hell. The fate of the large number is that salvation is possible. God’s mercy provides a way to be made worthy of His presence in heaven. He will purify us if he can find saving faith in us. He will test our works and burn out of our hearts that which is unworthy of the children of God, this we call Purgatory. It is a very great grace from God. Arguably the greater number of souls enter heaven via purgatory, and would otherwise not be able to enter heaven for the Book of Revelation says “nothing unholy will enter the presence of God.” (Rev. 22:3) We pray for the souls in purgatory for this process. It is not easy for them as St. Paul says in 1 Cor. 3, it is as if by fire. The letting go of lifelong attachments to sinful ways will be as if by fire for us. Pray for our beloved dead and all those who are preparing for heaven in purgatory.

ELECTION THOUGHTS: Remember to inform yourself about the positions of the candidates for public office before voting this week. Party labels are inadequate indicators of a person’s stand on issues. Prayerfully consider what is owed to Caesar, and to God, from the Gospel of two Sundays ago. Life belongs to God and no other. Know how the candidates stand regarding protection of life as you consider who to vote for, and then pray to God for the wisdom to please him in whom you will vote for.
