FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS This Sunday’s Feast of the Baptism of the Lord concludes the Christmas Season. Like our Savior’s birth on Christmas, both the Epiphany and Baptism of the Lord honor moments in which our Savior was made visible and noticeable in the world for people to be able to both recognize and come to faith in him. We are used to thinking of Christmas just in terms of his birth at Bethlehem, but there are other moments early in his life or ministry which are equally important for people to be able to come to faith in him, and the Church has made them part of the Christmas Season for many centuries. The wise men traveled from afar. They knew someone important was coming to us because of the star and were the first non-Jews to acknowledge Jesus as King. At Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan, God revealed himself as the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thereby teaching us that Jesus was not some additional God, but one with the Father and therefore worthy of acceptance by us as divine. If Jesus was not the Son of God, he would have been merely a wondering philosopher, and I doubt that any of us now would be Christians. Baptism is our link with heaven through Jesus. It is our adoption into God’s family as the water is poured and the name of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit is pronounced over us. As we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus, may we also honor our own baptism and renew our appreciation for what has been given to us through baptism. Father Glen Jenson, Pastor |

MCCL MARCH FOR LIFE - On Thursday, January 22 join thousands of Minnesotans at the State Capitol in St. Paul at 12:00 noon for the MCCL March for Life. The March commemorates the deaths of more than 50 million unborn babies killed by abortion since the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions legalized abortion on demand for the entire nine months of pregnancy. Your presence will help show elected officials and the public the depth of support for pro-life legislation protecting women and unborn babies. For more information visit www.mccl.org |
