FATHER GLEN’S THOUGHTS…..

Our readings this Sunday focus on the afterlife and being ready for it.  Through Wisdom we acquire the knowledge of how to live so as to be pleasing to God in this life and be ready to enter heaven when we die.  St. Paul assures us that the Lord will take us to himself and that those who have died before his return in glory will in no way be left out.

The wise virgins in the Gospel this Sunday had their lamps filled with the oil of good works and righteousness.  Praying for the souls of those we know who have died is one form of righteousness in God’s eyes by not forgetting about our beloved dead.  People who keep their deceased loved ones in mind through having masses offered for them and including them in their daily prayers have an opportunity that comes from being mindful of our eventual end and actively seeking the joys of heaven for others, tend to begin to strive to avoid what can cause us to miss heaven or to need to go through purification in purgatory, in other words, they tend toward becoming saints here and now.  During November, the month of the afterlife, remember your deceased relatives and friends in prayer and at mass and pray for the souls with no one to remember them in prayer.  It’s a great way to strive toward sainthood here and now.

Mary, Queen of all Souls, pray for us.

The Exchange Club Pancake Breakfast is this Sunday morning from 8:00 -12:30 at Kolbe Hall on the campus of Holy Cross.  This worthy civic organization does much good work in our community and is well worth coming out to support by attending their scrumptious breakfast.  I hope to see you there.
