FATHER GLEN’S

THOUGHTS…..

This Sunday is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord which concludes the season of Christmas.  Jesus came to John the Baptist to receive this symbolic cleansing from him though he was the all holy Son of God and Messiah and had no need for it himself.  He did this for the express purpose of showing his commitment to bringing us salvation, and to show us the way to enter into a family relationship with God through baptism.  We are baptized Christians and thus children of God.

This great feast calls us to remember that we are God’s adopted children and have the grace of God to live as bright lights for others in the world by the grace we have through baptism, as well as the other sacraments we receive because we are baptized.  As we prepare to return to Ordinary Time in the Church calendar, may we live each day not in an ordinary way but with grateful hearts for God’s fatherly love, a desire to bring others to know God’s love for them, and a willingness to respond to God’s love for them with genuine love for God.

I will be leaving for a week’s vacation this Sunday.  I will be taking my first cruise vacation to the Caribbean.  I hope that the ship doesn’t have any problems like the one that had to be towed back to port without power and everyone living on Spam for three days!  As I offer mass each day know that I will keep you all in my prayers for many blessings in this New Year.  Services will be held as usual with priests who have been arranged to cover in my absence.
