BULLETIN CONNECTION
Wouldn't it be great if we heard people clamoring to put up two tables with
the commandments on them? Not the Ten Commandments which politicians have
attempted to turn into some sort of test of values. But the commandments that
Jesus enunciates in today's Gospel: "Love God with all your heart, soul,
and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself."
In all the talk about a public display of the commandments, it seems that the
words of Jesus get lost in the desire to raise up a selected portion of the Old
Testament. The two commandments that come from Jesus contain the whole law, he
tells us.
A simple summary of the law doesn't always explain how to act in particular
circumstances. But if the two commands Jesus gave us aren't engraved in our
hearts it will be even more difficult to act.
