Text Box: BULLETIN CONNECTION

“Misery loves company” is an old saying that we’ve often heard and have probably used at one time or another to describe complainers who hang out together. It certainly applies to the group of lepers described in this week’s Gospel. Their common illness and the fact that they were outcasts forced them into a kind of alliance that would not have taken place without their misery. With Jesus traveling through Samaria and Galilee, we can presume that most of the lepers were Galileans. But as Luke describes it, at least one of them was a Samaritan - someone who would otherwise be an unwelcome outsider.

It is this Samaritan who returns to give thanks after he has been healed. When he was afflicted, he was good enough to include in the “company of the miserable,” but now that the ten have been healed, the Samaritan no longer fits in. Yet he is the one who is held up as an example of gratefulness.

In his Gospel, Luke continually shows how the outcast and the stranger are welcome in the kingdom of God. It is an unexpected turnabout, which serves as a caution for us all.

From Father David Ostrowski ….

To celebrate the 80th Anniversary of our present church building (1927-2007) and its redecoration by Conrad Schmitt Studios, Coadjutor Archbishop John Neinstedt has accepted the invitation to come and celebrate the 10:00 AM Mass on Sunday, November 18, 2007. It is my hope that many parishioners will be present at Mass.  Please plan to attend and welcome Archbishop Neinstedt.  A reception will follow.

FOOD FOR THE NEEDY - Let us remember those who are hungry and in need of food.  You can bring food donations when you come to Church or to the Rectory during the week.  The food will be used for Thanksgiving Baskets.  Please make sure to check the expiration date on the food and do not bring open boxes or bags.  Cash donations will also be accepted and used for turkeys, bread, etc.

STATUS OF PAINTING - The majority of work is completed.  Over the next three weeks the painters will focus on the balcony/west wall and detailing of pillars.  The work done so far is quite beautiful and highlights many details hidden by the previous painting in 1979.

          EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

         CONSOLE JESUS!!

In the Garden of Gethsemane, JESUS said “My heart is filled with sorrow to the point of death.”  (MT. 26:38)  Let us console HIM, let us comfort HIM, let us visit HIM in the Adoration Chapel.  HE came to give HIMSELF through the gift of the Holy Eucharist.  Visit the Chapel to give praise and thanks to HIM.
