THOUGHTS…..

Gratitude is the key theme of our readings this weekend.  Miracles of healing were worked in both the Old Testament readings and the Gospel, but not everyone so blessed gave meaningful thanks to God.  Gratitude is such a core value for a Christian to orient your day for love and service.  If we think only of our crowded schedule for the day, aches and pains, disappointments in life or past hurts, we will rarely experience the glory of really meeting people and seeing the image of God in them.  To see that in people, we need to open our eyes in the morning and give thanks to God for the new day, and pray to discover the wonders that await us as it unfolds, when we meet and really see the people in our day.  Each life is a treasure and a gift from God.  Make yourself rich, see all the treasure around you with the eyes of gratitude.

Next Sunday is the announcement weekend for the Archdiocesan Restructuring Plan. Priests will meet with the Archbishop and his staff this Friday, Oct. 15th to learn the outcome of the restructuring process.  I will be at all three masses the next day, Saturday, October 16th to present whatever will be happening to our parishes. I am trying to see if I can make it to all six masses on Sunday to present this news, it will be tricky. There will be printed material that will be given to each parish to hand out to parishioners after the masses as well.  If you cannot be at mass at your parish this coming weekend, be sure to pick up one of these brochures.  Change is scary, but it does imply that you’re alive if you can change to adapt to changing times and circumstances.  Let us pray that whatever comes, it will somehow strengthen the Church in our Archdiocese to serve the needs of the people of God and to call back the fallen away.  In the end, the Church is God’s family, he will watch over us.  God bless us all!
