BULLETIN CONNECTION
Weddings can be fun! They are also a lot of work. Just ask any couple preparing for their big day. There are plenty of things that happen to increase the stress: band breaking up, photographer getting sick, reception hall double booked. And any bride can tell you the frustration with people who send their reservation for dinner and then don't show up. Those folks actually end up costing the newlyweds money. No wonder the king in today's parable was upset!
Any mother who has had the experience of fixing dinner only to have family members not show up can also relate to the king in the parable. Everything is ready, but nobody's there.
While we wouldn't want to imitate the king's initial response - killing all those who wouldn't come to the feast - we might want to emulate his subsequent actions. He didn't give up! He had his servants invite anyone who would come.
Maybe we get frustrated with all those who don't show up on Sunday. But that doesn't mean we should give up. Keep inviting friends and neighbors. Someday they
might surprise you and come to the feast.
